H+K Strategies and Kelly Parisi (LeanIn.org) advocated for gender equality during their ‘Glass Lions & Glass Ceilings’ discussion at The Holmes Report’s Global PR Summit. It was an incredibly insightful session as Kelly highlighted some surprising statistics – ‘Type ‘boss’ into an image search and all the images are of men’ as well as ‘Less than 5% of the CEOS in the Fortune 500 are women’.
Our Financial + Professional Services team was been busy last week launching GE Capital Direct’s Relative Generosity scale, which ranks how generous family members are.
Despite popular stereotyping of mothers-in-law as the Dowager Duchess, as played by Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey, the research found that the mother-in-law is actually the most generous family member.
Those who have received money from their mother-in-law received an average of £3,093 in monetary gifts in the past year, followed by brothers in second place (£1,598) and fathers in third (£1,370). The research also found that people are more likely to receive gifts of money from relatives on mum’s side of the family (64%) than dad’s side (31%). The mother’s side also tend to give more, with people saying they received an average of £862.
The story was covered in four national titles including the Times, Express, The Sun and the Daily Mirror, as well as capturing the imagination of moneyfacts, AOL Money and a whole host of regional titles.
While mothers-in-law might be the classic difficult relation, buttering them up can reap rewards – thousands of pounds of rewards in this case.
This week, H+K London have also been busy organising and publicising an event for Movement to Work, attended by over 260 leading UK CEOs. H+K organised the event, securing an impressive line-up of speakers, including the Rt Hon Iain Duncan-Smith, Piers Linney and Nicholas Owen, as well as the CEOs of Marks & Spencer, Accenture, BAE Systems and Centrica. Meanwhile the young people who had completed the Movement to Work programme voiced their own experiences, demonstrating how life-changing it can be for an employer to take a chance on you.
At the event, thirty new companies committed to breaking the cycle of “no experience, no work” by offering unemployed young people work experience placements, representing at 15% increase in the number of UK employers pledged to the scheme. Movement to Work revealed that more than 30,000 unemployed young people have undertaken work experience placements through the programme and over half have gone on to secure jobs. H+K also managed all traditional and social media for the event and expect forthcoming coverage in the Times.
