Activision is one of the newest clients for the H+K London team, but already they’ve put in a huge amount of work on several high profile launches and events.

In October, Activision delivered what was perhaps the biggest and most challenging brief yet: as the team was tasked with launching the latest version of Activision’s flagship game: Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII.

The way the team choose to launch it was groundbreaking, historic and truly jaw-dropping.

The game’s release was the first of the COD franchise to not feature a traditional campaign mode, being more geared to online game-play with modes ranging from standard multiplayer and fan-favorite zombies to the newly debuting battle royal mode – Blackout.

Thus, a challenge was set for Activision and subsequently H+K to market a Call of Duty game unlike any seen before. H+K sought to devise a launch plan that referenced these game features while also being an incredible and totally unique experience.

The team decided to create a surreal new gaming experience, taking the traditional late-night gaming environment to a whole new level while incorporating the games ‘Black Ops’ identity. What H+K created was something that had never been done before. They built a gaming experience within a room coated in the world’s darkest man-made substance – Vantablack.

Vantablack absorbs virtually all incident light, in fact it reflects so little light that it is often described as the closest thing to a black hole we’ll ever see. The resultant effect of this being that those attending would lose all depth perception, being surrounded in complete darkness, nothing in site but BO4.

Press and creators including notable names such as Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli were invited from all regions to immerse themselves in a 30-minute experience that would forever change the standard for the ultimate gaming experience.

One of the key results of this spectacular and innovative event was that it generated an impressive 67 pieces of global media coverage – which had a cumulative reach of more than 13 million.

What followed was the wholeheartedly successful launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII October 12th, with a current Metascore of 85, a truly outstanding result.
