The country was united last night, as millions across the UK took to their windows and front doors at 8pm to clap for our NHS carers. A wave of videos shared on social media recording the moment gives an emotional insight into the gratitude we all feel for those fighting on the frontlines to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, buildings and landmarks across the nation created their own salute to our healthcare heroes by becoming a beacon of blue, as part of the #lightitblue campaign organised by the events and entertainment industry. Places from the Royal Albert Hall to the Belfast Titanic Signature were illuminated in a simultaneous message of thanks, using existing LED technology to ensure that the movement adhered to the Government’s guidelines to stay home.
The combined effect, building on the positivity of the existing #clapforourcarers initiative, was an overwhelming display of support for the tireless work carried out by everyone working across the NHS.
The public has been encouraged to take part in the
celebrations from home today, by creating their own blue-themed images and
videos with the tag #makeitblue. Many British celebrities are taking part and, armed
with an original illustration, H+K families have also joined in with their best
colouring-in efforts.
Having worked with a core H+K team and external partners to
share this campaign with the public, we are proud of our efforts to help bolster
the spirits of those working in the face of the pandemic. At a time of
uncertainty, it is more important than ever for those in the industry to share
messages of hope and solidarity. Many thanks to those who helped on this
project.
